LANCASTER, Pa. —
A 1914 Seth Thomas tower clock at the former Bowman Technical School building in Lancaster is running again.
Clock expert Chuck Roeser, who owns Essence of Time in New York, spent months restoring the movement of the mechanical clock.
He said, "Fewer and fewer of these clocks are left in America because buildings get torn down churches burn up courthouses burn down all that sort of thing."
Ryan Miller, who is President of Brent L. Miller Jewelers, now owns the building which houses the new Hamilton Watch Store. He wanted to have the clock restored because it is an important part of history.
"It is really unique and really special," he said.
Letters spelling out "Bowman's Corner...Correct Time" were 3-D printed to match the original font and are now on the refurbished dials.
Clockmaker Robert Desrochers of Lititz, Pennsylvania, stepped in to finish the job and get the clock running after Roeser had health issues. He loosened the universal joint of the unique linkages that operate both dials. He and his assistant, Eric Fink, wound the movement and set the clock.
The pendulum on display in the front window of the building is swinging and the clock is keeping time for the first time since the early 1990's.
